How Cool Gear Revolutionized Beach Wear in Jamaica

Before February 2002, no one cared what you wore at a beach party. In fact, I dare say many people didn’t know what to wear, perhaps because the choice was so limited.

Since then, not only has Cool Gear re-defined what beach ware should look like and popularized it, the company led by Joe Issa who is believed to have the Midas Touch, has made it a fashion statement.Cool Gear

Today, visitors at the hotels wear Cool Gear’s clothing not only because they are fashionable and trendy, but because wearing the branded wears, from bikinis and swimwear to casual wear and everything in between set them apart from everybody else.

“If you’re not wearing the Cool Gear brand, you won’t get a second look,” one visitor remarked, while shopping for something to wear at a beach party. “That’s what happened to me; that’s why I’m here.”

Cool Gear ware has come from being the coolest on the beach to the hottest Cool property where fun is abound in browsing and selecting from the temptingly priced island-themed merchandise and collectibles.

“You’ll have no trouble finding the perfect gift or souvenir for everyone on your list. You’ll find it all at Cool Gear—from fashion jewelry, bikinis, swimwear and tees to cover-ups, to casual wear and everything in between,” its website says.

It adds, “The Cool Gear brand is, well, the coolest clothing brand in the Caribbean for men, women and children.”

Cool Gear, which started in February of 2002 with a store at the Island Village Shops in Ocho Rios, became one of the hottest stores for tourists.

“Today, you’ll find Cool Gear inside Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay and at Island Village Plaza, where the Cool fun never ends,” the website informs, boasting, “Cool Gear can also be found at the Shoppes of Rosehall in Montego Bay.”

It said that “as more hotels and resorts spring up around the country, so too does the opportunity to expand the Cool Gear line and its retail shops.”

MBJ AIRPORTS Limited, operators of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, has integrated a dynamic shopping experience for passengers as they undertake a modernisation and expansion programme at the facility.

The new eastern concourse, which was officially opened by Prime Minister P.J. Patterson almost two weeks ago, features 12 boarding gates, a string of commercial outlets and spacious waiting areas for passengers.

Dr Paul Golding’s article ‘Jamaica and the Internet: where are we now?’, (Sunday Gleaner, April 19, 2015) points out some important issues about development of the Internet and Jamaican society and its economy.

Many of us know the world is being transformed rapidly by access to and use of Internet facilities. It has allowed countries and communities to jump over developmental hurdles like never before. I saw it first-hand years ago when gold and diamond miners in remote African villages were transacting with financiers in Europe on mobile phones.

The Grand Lido Resort sits on 22 acres of landscaped oceanfront property. Stretches of white, sandy beaches are groomed daily and are the repository for sun cots so numerous that the old towel trick is unnecessary and completely gauche in this environment.

The main building houses a large, marble-floored and columned grand entrance, flanked on one side by Venetian like waterways leading to nowhere in particular but soothing to the eye and calming to the holder. The reception desk is purposely small after all, this is a truly all-inclusive resort and the guest’s bill is minimal, only phone calls, faxes, telexes, haircuts etc. are an “extra”. read more here https://josephissahotel.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/superclubs-grand-lido-the-prototype-resort-for-the-21st-century/

Former commercial bank director, businessman Joe Issa, suggests that the same way Jamaica spent itself into trouble, is the same way it can get out of its woes.

Issa was reacting to news that Japan central bank has adopted a negative interest rate policy that penalizes commercial banks that leave cash in its vaults, rather than lend it out to increase spending in the economy and spur economic recovery. https://josephissaproud.wordpress.com/2016/04/18/same-way-in-same-way-out-let-jamaica-spend-itself-out-of-trouble-joe-issa/
